Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day

Today was a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. My students were out of control. It was mostly my fault. I did not have a good plan for today. I also realized that my first unit has been pretty useless. I haven’t really taught to the SPI, instead spending way too much time reviewing things they should already know, like adding fractions. I’m pretty sure that’s a 6th grade standard. But I’m going to wrap up the unit and move on, coming back to this later. I need to get out for my own sanity. Start fresh. Tomorrow they can’t keep me down, because at 7:30 pm I am getting on a plane to NEW JERSEY.

Hang in there. Sometimes you just have a crap day. That doesn’t mean your whole unit was useless–if they’re getting used to you and your classroom and learning things they need, even if they were “review” (which, for my kids, typically means Things You Don’t Know That Are Going To Kick Us in the Behind Later) then they were still getting a lot out of it. Smile, breathe, relax, it’ll be OK :-)
